The French Quarter

Our second (well, technically third, but second tourist day!) in New Orleans we visited the French Quarter. Dan and his Mom had mapped out all the fun places to visit. Our trip started out with a trolley ride (Owen "loved it!") into the business district and then a short walk to the Riverwalk and French Quarter area. We got to see the Mississippi river, enjoy yummy beignets at the famous Cafe Du Monde while listening to live jazz music, visit Jackson Square and the St. Louis Cathedral, take a walk down Pirate Alley, visit the St. Louis Cemetery number one. The roads were once again, filled with people, all about their own business; lots of tourists, a clown, a pirate, and a few extra friendly people. I have to say that the downtown area of the French Quarter is very smelly...I didn't ask why because I'm not sure I wanted to know, but it stunk pretty bad. The kids thought the above ground cemetery was very cool and searched long and hard for the oldest gravestone. My favorite part was the Cafe. The beignets (think, Princess and the Frog) were absolutely worth the entire trip! They were delicious, topped with heaps of powdered sugar...mmm...I think I need to go back right now. :)
Toward the end of the day we stopped in at the French Market and a little old grocery store called the Central Grocery and had their famous Muffuletta sandwich, which were fantastic despite the green olives. :) We hopped a trolley home and everyone fell asleep without any problems that night. :) I have a bundle of pictures here, I don't expect most of you to want to look at all of them, but I feel like they cover pretty much our entire day, including the beautiful buildings; hope you like them, it really was a fun day!

All the graves are above ground because of the high water table.

Presents for this occupant. I think I'd rather just have flowers. :)

Another sad shot. I wish someone would come fix this, and yes, you could see bones inside, but I didn't want to take a picture of that, it seemed disrespectful.

Worn out Daddy, Ellie had just finished a tantrum. She was one tired baby.

I had to take this shot. The kids wore their sandals all day and this was how their feet turned out in the end! It was straight into the shower for these three. :)
One last New Orleans post to go...look forward to the Plantation pictures, they are my favorite!!
