The first day was a very long drive through Alabama and Mississippi to Louisiana. We stopped at he prettiest rest stop I've ever seen right after we entered Mississippi, and then continued on to New Orleans. The kids did really well with the drive, (other than the massacre of cracker crumbs left behind) and we arrived at about 8:00pm Saturday evening, with Abuela and Buelo waiting outside the hotel for us.
My first impression, driving through the dark, garden district (where our hotel was located), was that I had never seen so many random people out on the streets. To be honest, the area looked sort of frightening to me. There are so many run-down area's in New Orleans, although the architecture is old and fantastic, but everything seems to work together to build a really cool city.
On Sunday we got up and went to church. We were lucky to find an LDS church straight up St. Charles street where we were staying, so we decided to walk. Once again, everyone seemed to be outside. There were lots of joggers and they jogged right on the trolley tracks. There were people sitting on corners, benches and pretty much everywhere. The buildings were randomly dispersed; some covered in beautiful vines, others newly restored with beautiful landscapes, others still run down and covered with graffiti. The streets were lined with very old trees each draped in Mardi Gras beads. The church was in a pretty old building. The primary only had about five kids in it, and everyone there was very friendly.
On Monday we decided to take a trip to the Bayou and see if we could spot an alligator! (which we did!) The kids absolutely loved it. It was very family friendly and I got to have a lot of fun with my camera. :)
I'll go ahead and post the Bayou pictures today and then add some more tomorrow, so for now, I guess I'll just say, "to be continued..."
You think that was a lot? Wait till tomorrow and the French Quarter! :)

How fun Becki! We've been talking about going there but have debated whether it's a place to take the kids...I think you've shown that it is!! Can't wait to read/see the rest :)
Ever since you posted the teaser pictures on Facebook, I have been waiting for your blog post. ;) I love the pictures. I have never wanted to go to New Orleans...now I think it is a must see. Can't wait for the rest. :)
Your pictures are awesome! And I absolutley love the one of Dan holding Ellie in her sunglasses, with them both smiling like they are the happiest people ever. Hilarious. That looks like a pretty cool place to tour.
