Why I Shoot

Ellie is a little over two years old now. Two years ago from about this time, I started to fall in love with photography. I was inspired by so many people, so many fantastic photographers, so many good friends, and especially by my children. I started reading everything I could about my camera. I read through the manual a few times, and pretty much everything else I could get my hands on, and practiced a lot. I've learned so much, and I am very sure that it will be a life long process.
I was thinking about why I love photography so much, and it occurred to me that through editing my pictures, I get to really see my children. I freeze their quickly changing lives for just a moment. I stare at the image, mold it into how I perceive them to be, and study their eyes, smile, and mannerisms. Real life candids are my favorite because those are the shots that twenty years down the road, I will return to and remember and smile. I want my house to be covered in them and I also love making those types of memories for others.
I will always have a camera at hand. I do not want to miss anything. These sweet children are growing, and time will continue to move forward, eventually they will no longer be under my care, but I will always have little bits of them, as they are now, captured forever.
I think that is pretty cool.

Here is a random play day, outside, with an over-sized truck and the two I have left all day at home with me...coming up!

I don't know why, but I adore this one! Linc loves watching his little sister. Ellie loves cookies. It's nice combo. :)

I like candids too. They speak volumes. And I love the second picture from your halloween post! It's a keeper.

I love these pictures. They really catch your kids. Especially the one where O is kissing Ellie and how did Ellie end up on the bottom of the puppy pile? She is the littlest, she should be on top. Your kids are great and LOVE your mad photography skills!

I love this Becki!! You're so right. Photography is more than just a hobby, it's the ability to capture these fleeting moments for the future. They grow up SO fast, that these pictures will be something you cherish forever! I'm saving now for my D5000 and I hope that by the time we have our 4th baby, I'll be able to get gorgeous photos like these! :)

It's so nice for me because I have such a bad memory, and pictures bring it all back to me - so it is so important to have LOTS and LOTS of pictures.
