Deep in the back of my mind I knew this day would come. From the day it was delivered, I could sense it was destined for destruction. I ignored these feelings, hoping that I was just being paranoid, but alas, I could not ignore the truth. Our brand new, very expensive, 48 inch LCD (aka Dan's baby) has met it's fate and the little destroying angel is, as some of you may have guessed, Owen.
Let me lay out the scenario. One mini Jedi knight, one purple light saber, one split second, one mighty blow, one piece of garbage tv, one VERY in-trouble little boy!
Light Sabers are now banned from our house and I am restricting any shows from Owen that go beyond the ABC's and 123's. (which should be easy now that our TV is trash) The sweet child is not even going to know what a weapon looks like till he's 32......at least!
I'm sure some of you are wondering how Dan took the news. First, understand that Dan loves TV. He is a movie guy, a travel channel junky and a huge football fan. He's had his eye on an LCD for years and did all his homework when buying this thing! He was out of town this week again, so I broke it to him via text message. I felt that would be safest. :) He was sooo good about it, and even asked how I was feeling before getting the specs on the damage. I think he could tell I was a little stressed! The TV shows the crack where Owen whopped it, and techno colored streaks up and down the entire screen. It's basically garbage. sigh...I'll just have to add this to Owen's pay us back in twenty years list right below, two cell phones, a lap top, two couches, a DVD player, four fish and a stained ceiling, (over flow from the bathroom sink above) just to name a few.
I love him and I'm telling you that if he didn't have his adorable big blue eyes, I don't know where he'd be today!
Here's a few pics. Dan must be recovering alright because he asked me to take these before throwing the light sabers away. He tried to do one picture smiling, but I reminded him about how sad Daddy was going to be and the rest of the pictures were his sad face. He kept saying, "I sahwy I boke it." I really think he means it too. I can tell you one thing though, he's not getting with in ten feet of my camera!
Only Owen.

oh i'm sorry! My little guy was playing the wii at my sisters. he let go of the remote and this is exactly what happened. WE had to pay for a new TV.
They are fixable but it costs more than the TV.
Its a good thing we love our kids.
Oh my goodness. I am SO sorry!!!
Uh oh! Sorry Dan.
I'm sorry on the loss of Dan's "friend" - I would be so lost without my DIY/craft show/NASCAR buddy!
Just a thought but you might call on your homeowners policy and see what coverage you have - it may be replaceable through it!
Oh dear. Good thing he's cute or you'd kill him! :)
Ouch. Really big ouch! I've said a million times, "The Lord sends 'em cute for a reason." I think our computer is currently in Eliza's sights, so we'll see when we *get* to replace that :) So sorry about the really expensive, light saber-banning, multicolored, stripey, used-to-be-a-tv-now-modern-art destruction.
Oh, and thanks for the Photo advice on my blog. I'll totally take a look at that.
Oh my, I am so sorry. You and Dan handled it beautifully, I probably only have one boy because I don't know that I would have handled it beautifully. :(
Oh man! That stinks! I keep waiting for it to happen to ours! Wow, I can't believe how well you hubby handled it!
Awww, tell Dan my boys feel his pain!! Bless Owen's heart, I think my boys destroyed almost everything nice I had. But things can be replaced. I threatened them if they ever took out my Statue of the Lady in Prayer. But they could replace that as well. I keep thinking will my boys ever stop wrestling...not yet anyway.
Oh no! I showed the pictures to Chris and he visibly cringed for Dan. A short time later Noah was running around with a bug catching net and Chris told him to get away from the tv. Ha!
I cannot believe a jab of the light saber could cause such damage. Maybe then next tv should be mounted high on the wall? Hopefully Dan gets new TV to replace his baby.
Oh no! That is so sad! I'm sure if we had a nice TV, Kash would be devastated! Luckily they are having good sales right now on tvs? :)
Hey - one of Aaron's friends said it should be covered on your homeowner's policy - there's usually a clause for accidental damage - your deductible would be much less to pay that the whole price for a new TV - good luck!
I actually gasped out loud when I read this post. I'm so sorry.
PS- Tell Dan we'll come help hold the funeral for the TV.
Wow... i think that is why all of my belongings are from DI or my parent's old stuff. That makes me not want a fancy TV... Cyprus doesn't really get into stuff too badly, but we will see how this next one is. As it is, my TV is a old one that I got for free for vacuuming an extra hour at the lady's house I used to clean in college!
Oh, I am SO sorry! That's not awesome. Aren't we so glad we can document all of this stuff as incriminating evidence for later? Like, when Owen wants to borrow the car you can be like, "Go read post 135 and ask me that again." I'm saving a lot of things for when The Princess wants to start dating.
Way to keep your cool, though. I'd definitely want you for a mom if I broke our TV.
