Eight inches of Snow

Eight inches is a pretty big deal. To some more than others I suppose. Say, for instance that a woman with hair down to her hip were to cut off eight inches, you might notice, but it wouldn't be a huge deal. However if I, with hair just below my shoulders, were to cut eight inches, I am pretty sure my husband would have something to say about it. Eight inches is a huge deal when you're a tight rope walker, and think about the difference it makes in a traffic jam. It can mean the difference between a beautiful bumper or a fender bender. I won't even mention football. (okay, I will!) Can you image Alabama losing a championship game over eight inches? That would be a pretty big deal.
So I guess it just depends. When it comes to snow, I can tell you that here, eight inches is a huge deal! Other places who are well equipped for eight inches of frozen precipitation may laugh at the fact that an entire portion of their southern country had to shut down for a week, but I am not sure they realized what a mess it was. I was told that the city of Huntsville alone owns two snow-plows...two! I suppose there is no real need for them since the last time we had snow of this magnitude was in 1993. Roads here are narrow, windy and very icey. I can't claim to know one person in my neighborhood who owns a snow shovel, or a bag of rock salt, and I'd be surprised to see snow-tires at the local Good Year. There are a plethora of trucks in the area, which were seen all over the neighborhood streets with make-shift sleds tied to their bumpers and excited children flying behind, but other than that, the roads were completely un-drivable.
So, to manage the snow, school was cancelled and we had an entire week of nothing to do but build snow forts, and watch movies. The kids loved it for the first few days, but by the end of the week, I think we were all ready to be back in school again.

My last semester started last week as well, and I am already busier than I like to be. I can't wait to be finished! On that note, I have way more than eight inches of pictures to show you, so I'll get to it! Have a great week everyone!

After the kids had froze enough, it was time to pull out the big blow-up toy! We had a good friend over to play with us.

It's crazy to have that much snow there. Even here, it's not a bad storm.

Genius. Totally forgot we have one of those blow up things too, and we could have set that up somewhere. The basement for all I care... and we might have survived a little more gracefully! :)

The picture of Ellie with a fork up her nose cracks me up! You are such a great photographer. I would pay big bucks to have you take my family pics! If only you lived in Denver. :)

My neighbors were so excited to bring out their shovels. Not that they actually intended to back out of their driveways, I think they just wanted to prove that they COULD shovel if the wanted to. Looks like y'all had lots of fun!
